Schwarz. Wald. Weiß.

Black Forest and White - how naturally they go together and make sense is shown by the artist Joseph Carlson in his new book Black.Forest.White. He tracked down the whiteness of this mountain region with his camera and gives us insights into the nature of a phenomenon that is more than just color. In the many years that the artist has lived in the Black Forest, in which he drives through the solitude of the forest on his daily journeys, he has come close to the white or the white to him.

That didn't let him and his camera rest. So he is now following up the photographic cycle “Schwarz.Wald.Land.”, the hymn to the color black published in 2017, with the necessary counterpart, the cycle “Schwarz.Wald.Weiß.”

Joseph Carlson is an artist who paints with a camera. With the color white he finds a way to explore the phenomenon of the Black Forest and, when we open this book, offers us a continuation of the previous one. It allows us to experience this landscape even more contemplatively and meditatively.
