The story behind Notes of Berlin
In "Notes of Berlin," Joab Nist collects the capital's most curious notes. These genuine street and hallway messages tell of love and bicycle theft, shared apartment casting dramas, neighborhood love confessions, neighborly disputes, package complaints, and all sorts of bizarre occurrences. Thus, they have long since become a medium in their own right—"urban, analogue everyday cultural communication," as founder Joab Nist calls it.
When Joab Nist and Oliver Seltmann first discussed the idea of a NOTES OF BERLIN calendar in a Neukölln backyard loft, they had no idea what a success story it would become. Over 100,000 copies sold later, the popular tear-off calendar is already in its eleventh edition in 2026.
The award-winning cult blog "Notes of Berlin" thrives on the numerous submissions from the community that Nist receives and curates daily. The archive now contains over 10,000 notes. The blog receives up to one million views per month, and NOTES OF BERLIN now has more than 600,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram.
